Women's Role in US

Many women accepted their unequal status without question, but there were also others who took an active interest in political life and who became increasingly dissatisfied with their continued exclusion. The new "enlightened" ideas of liberty, equality, and democracy that were being discussed by men found a strong echo among intelligent women, and when the American colonies prepared for their secession from the English crown, they dreamed of their own sort of liberation, too. This presentation will go over the timeline of the Women's Movement in America from the 1800's to present day and also discuss about the role and contribution of women in our modern society.

How does one analyze a U.S. presidential election? The American electoral system is very complex, and even mysterious. It is possible, however, to make sense of it with some basic tools of electoral sociology, political analysis, and communication theory. Nevertheless, the current presidential campaign is especially fascinating because it has been so unpredictable! In the history of recent campaigns this one is particularly interesting to Americans and the rest of the world. How is this election different, and how is it democratic politics as usual?
The Joy Luck Club

"The Joy Luck Club" presents itself as a serious look into the lives of these women, and certainly it has the appearance of profundity. True, there are too few films focusing on women's lives, and almost none about Asian Americans, and, yes, "The Joy Luck Club" helps to correct that imbalance. But the conclusions of the film -- its perceptions about the real lives of people -- are perhaps less profound than the filmmakers would have us believe.
