PARENTHOOD

Time: 2:30-3:45, September 14, 2007
Venue: 3rd Floor, Rose Garden Tower, 170 Ngoc Khanh Street, Hanoi

“It could happen to you.”
Director Ron Howard teams with Steve Martin and an all-star cast to create a hilarious, touching and unforgettable portrait of life’s most rewarding occupation: Parenthood. The Buckmans are a modern-day family facing the age-old dilemma of trying to raise children the “right” way. At the center of the storm is Gil (Steve Martin), who managers to keep his unique sense of humor while attempting to maintain a successful career and be a loving husband and parent, all at the same time. As Gil and the rest of the Buckmans discover, being the “perfect” parent often means just letting children be themselves. Mary Steenburgen, Rick Moranis, Tom Hulce, Jason Robards and Dianne Wiest add vibrant performances to this heart-warning comedy that Gannett Newspapers calls “a funny, touching experience that will sweep you away.”

Pronunciation Workshop: The Sounds, Rhythm, and Intonation of American English

 Time: 9:30-11:30, September 21, 2007
Venue: 3rd Floor, Rose Garden Tower, 170 Ngoc Khanh Street, Hanoi

In this workshop, common pronunciation difficulties of Vietnamese speakers will be reviewed and communicative activities to address these problem areas will be explored and practiced. Participants will also review a series of activities to understand how suprasegmentals (syllables, word stress, sentence stress, speech rhythm, thought groups, focus words, final sounds, linking, intonation, reductions) can affect comprehensibility. They will also practice assessing the pronunciation difficulties of students and consider how pronunciation is addressed and evaluated in the EFL curriculum

You can register to these events by email (irchanoi@gmail.com), phone (844-8314580, ext. 6207, 6149) or fax (844-8314601).

Groundhog Day

Time: 2:30-3:45, September 28, 2007
Venue: 3rd Floor, Rose Garden Tower, 170 Ngoc Khanh Street, Hanoi

Bill Murray at his wry, wisecracking best in this riotous romantic comedy about a weatherman caught in a personal time warp on the worst day of his life. Teamed with a relentlessly cheerful producer (Andie MacDowell) and a smart-aleck cameraman (Chris Elliott), TV weatherman Phil Connors (Bill Murray) is sent to Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, to cover the annual Groundhog Day festivities. After a surprise blizzard traps him in small-town hell, things get even worse; Phil wakes the next morning to find it's Groundhog Day all over again... and again... and again.
