U.S. Student Life

Time: 14:00-16:00, July 03, 2008
Venue: 1st Floor, Rose Garden Tower, 170 Ngoc Khanh Street, Hanoi

College life in the United States can be a bit over whelming at first for the most part, but there are easy ways to get involved.
Whether it be sports, student organizations, parties, study groups, volunteering, or what ever else you can think of, American colleges will probably offer it. I want to tell you about all of the possibilities that college has to offer and about student life in general.

Film showing: An American Tail

Time: 14:00 - 16:30, July 11, 2008
Venue: 1st Floor, Rose Garden Tower, 170 Ngoc Khanh Street, Hanoi

Don Bluth's An American Tail is based on the story of a young Russian mouse who is separated from his family in America and who later heads with his reunited kin out to the American West. It's pleasant, though not spectacular, and has its greatest problems in story development. Steven Spielberg produced with an eye toward creating animation hits outside of Disney, and he and Bluth certainly took a big step in that direction here. Kids like it a lot, and adults will warm to the sound of various familiar voices, such as Dom DeLuise as Tiger and Madeline Kahn as Gussie Mausheimer. It's also the source of the pop single "Somewhere Out There."

Film showing: National Geographic at the White House

Time: 14:00 - 16:30, July 18, 2008
Venue: 1st Floor, Rose Garden Tower, 170 Ngoc Khanh Street, Hanoi

Americans may think they know plenty about the White House--and in the wake of the Monica Lewinsky scandal, perhaps many feel they know more than they want to--but the National Geographic video Inside the White House will make you forget such sordid details. The history of the most famous house in the United States is a fascinating one, and this video seamlessly blends aspects of that monumental past with present-day behind-the-scenes access.

Student Life at U.S. Universities

Time: 14:00 - 16:30, July 23, 2008
Venue: 1st Floor, Rose Garden Tower, 170 Ngoc Khanh Street, Hanoi

Where do U.S. students live?  Will I be able to join clubs?  Can I play sports?  How about cultural events?  Who can help if I get sick or need extra help with my studies?
This workshop is designed for students planning to study at U.S. universities at the undergraduate or graduate level.  Participants will gain a broader understanding of student life on a U.S. university campus and have the opportunity to hear about accommodations, sports, clubs, and other activities that might be available, as well as resources they may need.  This workshop will be interactive with plenty of opportunity for participants to ask questions.  Participants are encouraged to bring materials and information they may already have from the U.S. university they plan to attend.

Film showing: American Graffiti

Time: 14:00 - 16:00, July 25 , 2008
Venue: 1st Floor, Rose Garden Tower, 170 Ngoc Khanh Street, Hanoi

Here's how critic Roger Ebert described the unique and lasting value of George Lucas's 1973 box-office hit, American Graffiti: "[It's] not only a great movie but a brilliant work of historical fiction; no sociological treatise could duplicate the movie's success in remembering exactly how it was to be alive at that cultural instant."
